The Four Agreements in Leadership

One of my favorite books on leadership is called the four agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. In it he details four agreements that you can make with yourself that will serve you in every situation, especially if you lead a team of other people. The first agreement is this: be impeccable with your word speak with integrity and don’t gossip. The second is don’t take anything personally. Understanding that someone’s view of you is their own, and has nothing to do with you is a freeing step to take. Number three is don’t make assumptions- ask clarifying questions, We often go through our days assuming we know what someone thinks or how they’re going to react or respond to us. These assumptions stunt interpersonal growth. The fourth agreement is always do your best. I promise that if you write these down and work on integrating one agreement a week, your interactions with those around you and especially those you lead, will grow in meaningful ways. I’m Lindsay Brown and this is your 60-second growth spurt.
